    Classmates,

As you know, I did not seek to lead this organization. Nevertheless, since majority of you chose me to be President of the Global Chapter then I will try my best not to disappoint you.

The first order of business for us is the Flood Aid Project that will help our classmates who had been affected by the recent flood in Iloilo and the surrounding areas. I spoke to Jeremy this morning and he has identified three classmates who had suffered the most. They are: Fruto Calinawagan, Robert "Boy" Fullon and Deborah Patriarca. Fruto lost his entire house while the homes of Boy and Deborah suffered major damage.

Donations to this project is voluntary so any amount you can give is greatly appreciated. Jeremy and the officers of the Iloilo Chapter will take care of apportioning the amounts donated to the flood victims.

So, dear classmates, I am counting on you to respond to this call to help our unfortunate members.

    Thanks.

Way to go Chief Who Stared Bear in the Eyes, Dog Waste Bag Smile

Aside from the financial donations for the immediate assistance, we would like to send balikbayan boxes of clothing and linen. We hope to send one from the North East shortly. This is for the continuation of the assistance in kind. Tim, you mentioned also that Val & you will coordinate on the balikbayan boxes in the West Coast.... Wink right? The balikbayan box takes a month and a half to arrive in the Philippines. This may be ongoing as everyone needs basic clothing. Classmates, please check with each other if you are in the same area. You may want to group yourself in putting together one balikbayan box to send. This will be a quicker way to fill the box to send. Used clothing and other essentials in kind is what we intend to send. You can even ask friends or your church to help in this dirve. If we send a box a week, a box a week will arrive in Iloilo. Kun sin-o lang may time kag pwede, this help will go a long way.

Classmates, if you have suggestions on the "aid in kind" assistance, please post your response in this forum so as to get everyone involved in this flood assistance drive.

Congratulations Mr. Prez! I know you will do what's best for HS Class 72+ Alumni.

I recall we still have some funds left over from previous activities in Iloilo. Suggest, for expediency, to use this now for immediate assistance.

Mr. Prez, dira bala sa may Van Nuys Island Pacific shopping center, daw $45 lang ang balikbayan box for Visayas. You may want to check this out as pwede mo ma-agyan kay along the way man lang na. Take Roscoe Blvd from I-5 or 170, corner siya sang Roscoe kag Van Nuys Blvd.

Thanks for the info. Pero anhon ta ang box kon wala kita inugsulod sa box. Mas importante ang sulod sang box. So sa mga taga-West Coast ipadala ninyo sa akon ang gusto nyo isulod sa box so that we can send it.  Also those who want to send cash, please, send it to me so that I can  send it to Jeremy. We cannot use the oragization's funds because. first of all, we are not a disaster relief organization. Secondly, I think we need a majority vote to do it. I don't have a copy of the by laws so correct me if I'm wrong.

Am referring to residual funds out there in Iloilo which can be later reimbursed. There was already a precedent. Part of it was already used for the late Francis Occena and later reimbursed. Jeremy/Fredgel can confirm this.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were referring to. In that case, since the Iloilo Chapter has jurisdiction over the funds, then, in my opinion, they can make a decision on that matter. As to reimbursment from the Global Chapter funds, that would require a vote from the Global Chapter members. Meanwhile, we should go ahead with the ongoing voluntary financial aid and "balikbayan box" projects for our classmates who are in dire need of our help.

Smile As the person who did the transaction before, let me clarify. Since it takes time to get all the funds being collected here in the US to be put together and then sent to the Philippines, it might be a good idea have the Iloilo group advance the money that we have so far collected here and get reimbursed as soon as the money here is remitted to Iloilo. This way, the money needed to assist the classmates affected by the flood will get to those who need it faster. I'm sure they really need the assistance soonest.

Is this the idea Luis? When we collected the funds for Francis then, we did the same way since Francis needed the funds immediately but it took some time for me to collect the pledged funds and to send it the fastest and cheapest way. Tim, will this work? You  may want to discuss this with Jeremy and Aida ( still the Treasurer?). I believe (and hope) more cash donations will be forwarded to you.

Yup, that is it. This has nothing to do with our ongoing relief solicitations nor US funds. Was thinking of a way to get financial assistance there soonest.

I spoke to Jeremy this morning and he agreed with what you and Miriam proposed. It is the most efficient way to help our classmates.

So, once again, I appeal to all members of the Global Chapter to send their donations or e-mail to me their pledges for the Flood Aid by July 27, 2008. As soon as I have the total amount (cash plus pledges) I will relay this to Jeremy so that they can withdraw the equivalent amount from the funds of the Iloilo Chapter. The mechanics of the distribution to our classmates who had been devastated by the flood will be the responsibility of the officers of the Iloilo Chapter.

Luis, thanks for sending your cash donation to Jeremy and I'm looking forward to receiving your assistance in kind.

On second thought, I'll just scrouge my home there in Jaro for usable stuff. Been checking shipping costs and shipping from my place to Pres Tim's for a 10 lb package by parcel post (cheapest), can buy a couple of jeans/shorts out there in Iloilo. Dugang ko na lang ni sa cash padala ko kay Jeremy. As for my stuff here, hapit ko na lang da sa imo Pres Tim on our way to Laughlin/Las Vegas in about 2 weeks.
